まいど/Maido (Hello)
“Maido” is a greeting used when you visit others’ home, meaning “Hello.” or “Is there anyone home?”
It also means always. As a greeting to persons who always take care of you, you can use maido in the way like “Maido-arigato-gozaimasu (Thank you always for your support)” or “Maido-osewaninarimasu (I appreciate your continuous support)”. It is said that these sentences were shortened to maido, which became established.
Some manzai groups greet the audience using their familiar theme songs before performing their acts or leaving the stage after the acts.
This exhibition introduces performers of onkyoku manzai (comedy act using music), including a manzai trio named Miyagawa Sakon Show, which was popular for their theme song beginning with “Maido-minasama-onajimino ((A line) Familiar to you)”.
In the exhibition case are magazines featuring theme songs used on-stage by the manzai groups Kashimashi-musume and Yokoyama Hot Brothers.
